Lisa Letarte Cabrinha, Letarte Designer
Aloha is how Lisa greets the world. From her Maui-based design offices, Lisa has created over a decade's worth of tropical luxe clothing that is found in over 400 distinguished retailers and exclusive resorts around the world.
Her quest to find a feminine swimsuit she could wear on the waves was her motivation to start designing. Inspired by her jet setting island lifestyle, competitive windsurfing career and eye for beauty, Lisa—along with her sister Michele Letarte Ross—founded the Letarte label in 2000.
Lisa’s signature trademarked prints, intricate adornments and lavish detail have made Letarte recognizable around the globe. Loyal fans--including Kate Hudson, Beyonce Knowles, and Cindy Crawford--pack Lisa’s collection in their beach bags and over 50 Letarte swimsuits have graced the pages of the coveted Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition over the past 13 years including two exclusive cover shots in 2005 and 2013.
Quite simply, Letarte began as a single bathing suit in a Maui beach bungalow. Today, the Letarte sisters have transformed Lisa’s quest for flirty-yet-functional swimwear into a multi-million dollar label that now includes swimwear, sportswear, tunics, beach accessories, after sun skincare and tropical-weight cashmere.
“We don’t follow the trends. Instead we follow our own path—often times finding that we have unexpectedly set the trend. The challenge for us is to keep things unique. Design is an ongoing process—like the constant flow of the ocean.”-Lisa Letarte Cabrinha, co-founder and Designer
